[ mood | annoyed ]

I am so not in the Christmas spirit this year. I have absolutely no desire to buy Christmas gifts and seeing Christmas lights makes me angry. Maybe it is because I think Christmas is absolutely unnnecessary this year. The fact of the matter is, is that no one can afford Christmas this year. Why buy gifts when you can't afford them? My soy peppermint mocha, no whip has made me feisty.

So, Walmart has probably put Media Play out of business? Go figure. People need to stop being so fucking cheap and ignorant and start shopping at other places. Yes, the economy is bad. Yes, no one has money. But, if everyone started supporting local business their prices would eventually be low, too. No one cares, though. Everyone thinks that Walmart is the greatest thing that the world has ever seen and will continue to shop there, until eventually we will all be working at Walmart. Just wait. You'll see.

I have spent the last two nights doing my finals. I can't take it anymore. I did get a lot done, though, so I will be able to go out this weekend. That is all I really care about, anyway.

Has anyone had the Bell's Winter White Ale? If not, you should. It is seriously the best beer I have ever had in my life. I am going to buy a few cases this weekend, I think.

Brian and I went down to Detroit last night to look at the Christmas tree and to get some food. After dinner we went back to Campus Martius and sat in front of the tree on the edge of the fountain to look at the ice skaters. While we were sitting there, a girl with a camera came up and asked us if she could take our picture for the Metrotimes. How cool would it be if we were in this weeks issue?

Guess what? [04 Nov 2005|02:40pm]
Winter semester I will be taking Chemistry 1020 on Thursdays from 12:00-21:00.

No, that isn't a typo. I will have to do Chemistry for nine mo-fuckin' hours.

Has Wayne State gone crazy? Who the fuck would design a schedule like that?

I hate Chemistry and I hate Wayne State for making me take nine straight hours of it.

I have to ask that no one send me anymore text messages. In order to read them, I have to go online. Isn't that strange? In any case, the bill becomes outrageous when I have to go online to read them.

Thank you.

The G.P. [28 Oct 2005|01:32pm]
Hey there, party people.

The party is on and it starts at 21:00.

I have a receipe for Jungle Juice. It requires a bottle of strawberry vodka, orange vodka, amaretto, peach schnapps, sour mix, and a variety of fruit juices (that I will get). I would like to make jungle juice and I was thinking that we could all pick a liquor to bring. Please comment if you will bring a liquor.

Everyone is welcome to stay the night. Remember that there are prizes.

These are the rules for the drinking contest:

1. If you die, you lose.

2. If you break anything in my house, you lose.

3. If you throw up anywhere other than a toliet, you lose.

4. If you hurt my dog, you lose.

5. If you become violet and need to be removed from my house by force, you lose.

6. If you try to cheat by replacing vodka with water, you lose.

7. If you won't dance to the monster mash, you lose.

8. If you refuse to dance when drunk, you lose.

9. If you don't always have a drink in your hand, you lose.

10. If you (at any point) refuse a drink that is offered to you, you lose.

See you tomorrow!!

Will they do the mash? [27 Oct 2005|02:04pm]
There is a slight problem with the Halloween party. My sister has mono. Is everyone alright with that? It is contagious, but I am not sure if you can get it from being around her.

I am going to get a half keg of Labatt Blue. If eight people drink beer, it will be ten dollars a person. Is this alright with everyone?

The Party's On! [13 Oct 2005|08:04pm]
I will be having a Halloween party on the 29th. I will provide the food and one alcoholic punch. I really want to make jungle juice, so I was thinking that everyone could bring rum or tequilla. We could also get a keg, if everyone wants to chip in. Let me know.

There will be a prize for best costume. There will also be a prize for the person who drinks the most without dying. I want people to stay the night!! There are enough beds and blankets to go around.

The fun starts at 21:00.

Party [12 Oct 2005|07:06pm]
I think I am going to be having a party on the 29th which is the last saturday in October. I haven't decided if it is going to be a Halloween party or a get-really-drunk dance party. Either way, I am sure there will be a lot of dancing involved.

In order for this party to work, my parents need to spend the night somewhere. If my dad is able to plan properly, there shouldn't be any problems. Keep the day open and I will keep everyone updated.

Ellen [30 Sep 2005|02:43pm]
I sometimes watch Ellen (when I am home and I remember), but only the very beginning. I only watch the beginning because that is when she dances. I love when Ellen dances. She dances so well that I am forced to get up and dance around my living room with her.

So, it is really weird thinking about being at school all day without having to work at CTII. It is nice that I have Tuesdays and Thursdays off of work, but also really strange. I haven't been down here for a whole day since freshman year. It is only 11:24 and the idea of being here until 19:20 makes me sad.

My birthday party was a success. And although we were too late to get into the Ren Cen, I still had a lot of fun. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with me or left a comment.

Grizzly Man tonight!

Final Birthday Update [30 Aug 2005|01:20pm]
[ mood | excited ]

This will be my final birthday post. I didn't send out invitations and I am not calling anyone because this is more efficient.

The party is this Friday. We are having desert at the Whitney at 20:00. Sarah will be driving by herself and meeting us there. Anyone that wants to go down together can meet at my house around 19:15. I am not sure what the driving arrangements will be or who my D.D. will be, but we can figure it out later.

After the Whitney, we are going to have drinks at the Ren Cen.

After the Ren Cen, I am not sure. I think we should go to trashy bars with cheap drinks, but that is just my opinion. I would like to avoid Circa, so if anyone has any ideas on where to go please let me know.

Most importantly, please dress up. The Whitney is a classy joint and there are no jeans allowed at the lounge in the Ren Cen. If dressing up scares you, you can meet us later in the night or you can bring jeans to put on after the Ren Cen.

Carrie, Corinna, and Rene [27 Aug 2005|08:09pm]
I have been thinking about the women's studies/feminist group that we are going to be taking over and I think that we should try to get together either the first or second week of school. I am going to be down on T/TH and I think that we should plan a day to write out some type of group manifesta or something. I think that one of the major problems with the group last time was that there was no focus, which made it difficult to plan events and increase membership. If we all think of issues that are important to women and combine them into a coherent statement, it might make the group more accessible to those who aren't necessarily "feminist." For example, global women's rights, lack of child care on campus!, globalization, date rape, pay equity, body image, access to emergency contraception, etc.

We should also plan a project or try to get some fliers together to put around campus within the first weeks to inform the students about the group. I will take on the responsibility of making the fliers. Let me know what you think.

I would like to ask Anca to be the faculty member who is in charge of the group. She seemed really interested when Carrie and I mentioned to her last semester. Furthermore, she used to be the head of the women's studies department and she is an awesome person all-around, so I think she would be perfect. Is the group pretty much good to go? Are we just missing the faculty member?

I also think we should make it a point not to be in competition with the pro-life group. Personally, I don't want the group to be based solely on reproduction/abortion rights and I don't want our group to be a response to their group. If our group can stand alone and be knowledgeable, intelligent, and factual about important issues that are affecting women, I know that eventually we will gain support.

Final Camping Update [15 Aug 2005|11:25pm]
Jasmine and Jeff are no longer going camping with us.

Matt and I are still going to meet around 06:30 on Friday morning. Alexa is planning on meeting us before we cross the bridge into the UP.

Although we were discussing only taking one car, Matt and I have decided that it might be best to still take two. I figure that if it is going to be super cold at night, I am going to want to bring a lot of blankets. This should make you happy Kristine, because you no longer have to follow the "one backpack/duffel bag per person" rule. I am excited that we will all be able to share one tent.

I have looked at both the Mapquest and Yahoo! driving directions and the Yahoo! directions are much easier. I will print off copies of the directions for the drivers.

It looks as though there is going to be a chance of showers every night. I think I may have a tarp we could use to cover the tent or use under the tent. If not, does anyone else have one?

Hopefully this will be the last update. If there is anything I am forgetting, I will be use to post again.

Birthday Plans [15 Aug 2005|03:51pm]
For my and Sarah's birthday (Friday September 2nd), we would like to have dessert at the Whitney and drinks at the Ren Cen before going out to the local Detroit bars. I was thinking that we could plan on having dessert at the Whitney around 8pm and having drinks at the Ren Cen around 9-9:30pm. The drinks at the Ren Cen are between $4.50 and $9.00, which is fairly reasonable. The restaurant is located on the top of one of the towers and revolves, so it is pretty exciting.

I think I am also planning on getting a hotel room in the Pontchartrain, depending on how many people would like to come. I called today for prices and it would be $119/night for two double beds. That means each person would have to put about 30 dollars towards the room. That is a little more than I would like to spend. So, my questions are as follows: Should we try to get a room at the Pontchartrain? Should we try to get a room at the Econo Lodge on Little Mack? Should we just go home after we are done drinking? The restaurant enforces a "dressy business" dress code, which means that jeans aren't allowed. Are people still interested in going to the Ren Cen? If so, we have to bring a change of clothing if we don't get a hotel room. We could always skip the Ren Cen and save it for another night.

Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Camping Update Number 2,456 [12 Aug 2005|10:25am]
[ mood | excited ]

I am going to reserve the campsites tomorrow. I want everyone that is going to comment back to this journal or to call me. If there aren't going to be 7 people going, we only need one campsite. If there are going to be 7, no problem. I may have more people that would like to come. I am going to get two electric campsites because (as Karl and Kristine pointed out) the nights are going to be quite chilly. By chilly, I mean it could get down to about 45 degrees. Therefore, those of you with space heaters can bring them along. Those of you who do not have space heaters (like me) make sure to pack a lot of warm clothes and extra blankets.

However, we must look into the possibility that there may not be two electrical campsites next to each other. If this problem were to arise, would everyone rather that I got two electrical campsites or two non-electrical sites that are next to each other?

We (meaning me, Alexa, Matt, Jasmine, and Jeff) are going to meet at Matt's apartment at 6:45am on Friday morning. We are going to go to Kristine and Karl's to pick them up. My friend Brian (and possibly some of his friends) might also be going. They live closer to Kristine and Karl's, so if they do go they would meet us at K-n-K's apartment.

Alexa: Were you still planning on driving separately? I think that you shouldn't waste the miles and gas and that you should hop in one of our cars. The more the merrier!

Tents! I have a two person tent. I think Karl has a tent that can fit 5 people. When you call/comment, please let me know if you have a tent. I will make another post later in the week letting everyone know how many tents we have. We should try to bring as few tents as possible to cut down on trunk space.

Speaking of space, both cars that we will be taking are going to be rather small. Try to only bring a backpack/duffel bag's worth of clothing and necessity items in order to give as much sitting room as possible. If there are going to be more people coming, I will let everyone know.

Food! How does everyone want to get food? There is a local grocery store in Wawa that I was thinking we could go to. It would be better if we could spend an hour buying food there rather than trying to find the space to fit it into the cars. I would, however, recommend buying veggie dogs/hamburgers here. The chances that they will be available in the store are slim. If anyone has a cooler that we could bring, please let me know. We would only need a small one to keep the meat and cheese.

Pots and pans! I have cast iron skillets that I can bring to use for cooking. I also have a coffee percolator. Can anyone bring wooden/metal spoons for cooking? Does anyone have any extra plastic wear/paper plates?

Make sure to pack your birth certificate! There are showers there, so if you plan on showering bring towels/shampoo/soap!

I don't think I am forgetting anything. If I am, let me know.
